This is NO justice to the families of the innocent people killed by this major of RNA in the name of Maoists. This is nothing but just a show. We all know that the RNA and police killed several people who were NOT Maoists. Can the Human Rights people make louder noise? I hope the family and relatives of this Major will discard his bloody hands.

The military court has dismissed the major who commanded the troops in the Doramba incident and has sentenced him to two years in jail. The court also demoted a Junior Commissioned Officer involved in the incident by one rank, besides recommending the Nepal Police take necessary action against Inspector Prabin KC, who was part of the team.

?Ministry of Defence has approved the military court?s verdict for its implementation,? an official at the ministry told The Himalayan Times today. The army had sent the decree to the ministry a week back for approval. Major Ram Mani Pokharel was the commander of the unified team in Doramba and the forces under his command were accused of having extra-judicially executed 21 Maoists after their capture on August 17 at Doramba in Rammechhap district. Although the preliminary report of the Royal Nepalese Army suggested that the 21 rebels were killed in crossfire, the RNA investigated the incident in depth after receiving severe criticism from the human rights organisation. ?As we found the officer guilty after in-depth investigation, he has been punished,? said a top RNA official.
