For those who want to know about the difference between "Newar" and "Jyapu", here are the main ones:
- Newar Last Names: Pradhan, Shrestha, Joshi, Vaidya, Rajbhandari, Malla,
- Jyapu last Names : Dangol, Singh, Maharjan, Gorkhali, Pachhai, Manandhar.
- All the Jatraas in Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur are conducted by Jyapu people.
- All the temples in the Valley were built and maintained by Jyapu people.
- "Jyapu" name originated from "Jya ya phu" which they called themselves during Rana period
when the valley was blocked by Ranas from importing essential goods from outside in fear
of revolt from outside.
- Before Kathmandu Valley was declared "World Heritage Site" by UNESCO in 1979, the
dress Jyapu people wore was called "Jyapu dress" and the music instrument they used were
called "Jyapu baja" and the food they ate were called "Jyapu khana". Now all the other
Newars want to call these things Newari dress, Newari baja and Newari Khana.
They didn't want to be a part of it before 1979, now they want credit for all the work Jyapu
people have done so far.
VERY Selfish and Opportunists !!!

ommanepeme, You are right. These so called Newars with these last names like Shrestha, Pradhan , Joshi, Vaidya are all thugs. They don't want their children to get married with Jyapu people. I have seen hundreds of youngsters who had to give up their love partners Jyapu last name because their parents rejected the relationship. But these so called Newars want to take credit of all the things that Jyapu people have done.
It's like "Kaam Garne Kaalu, Makai Khane Bhalu"

Who is Jyapu? Who is Shrestha? Who is Bahun? These all are in the basket with honest and disgraced people.
You decide which category you want to be.
And by the way, denial of marriage relationship among Jyapu, Shrestha and Bahun will NEVER go away from our community.
Even educated people in the urban area still have this kind of rotten mentality in their blood.
Everybody talks about рдерд░ even in USA. Hence, it is up to you where you want to stand.

Global citizen ? Exactly what all those outsiders think about themselves. They didn't have anything like it in their villages and they won't care if Kathmandu loses everything it once had. Look at the valley now. From the plane the houses in Kathmandu valley look like SLUMs in Mumbai.

I typed something long thinking my response would be creative and witty. Was trying to impress the choir. But it was typed and posted through a mobile device and Sajha's excellent UI just churned it and saved (committed) nothing.

So the bottom line is just Chill. Have a beer. Will be dead sooner than we thought.

Once jyapu go to America they cannot farm there. Once bahun go to america they cannot become beaurocrats unless they have citizenship. In america everyone become kullie low jaat.

Whatever be the difference Newar or Jyapu or Bahun or Chettri, All of them migrated from India and evolved in Nepal. The real ethnic people of Nepal are the Himalayan and Hill people like Sherpa, Tamang, Gurung, Ghale, Rai, Limbu. They were the ones who lived in Nepal centuries before these Indians so called Mallas, Ranas invaded them.
