Just wondering if there are any active investors who are playing the stock market among us here in sajha. I am a rookie investor myself, so it would be nice to share a few thoughts, ideas, and tips with those involved in it. From what I have seen in America, owning your own business or being an wise investor is the only way to build wealth. Well you can always hit the jackpot lottery but what are the odds? Investment, Stock Market, and all the financial jargons related to them can be overwhelming and intimidating for first time investors, even more so if you are an immigrant. So, I hope we can make this a knowledge sharing platform to help those who are interested in learning more about investment and stock market in general. And for those of you who have no interest in stocks or investment at all, here is why may be you should reconsider. We all know about Dell computer and chances are at one point or another we have all used it. If you had spent $5,000 on Dell stocks in 1998 your return as of today would be over $133,000. Or how about ebay? I know I use it for buying and selling time to time. If you had spent $5,000 on ebay in 2003, guess how much would be the value of your stock today? In less than 3 years your $5,000 investment today would be worth over $47,000 today. Now I am not saying it's a sure thing because you can lose money in the stock market as well and that is why you need to be wise and do your research. So, if we have interested folks, we can make this a way to help each other in a small way. Thanks.

right now is a dangerous time to invest unless u are willing to gamble... i was about to buy GLD, DELL, AIG, PVH just last week... i wish i did because all those are up quite a bit. as far as GLD im not sure how much higher it can go.. maybe there is a little more room so i would becareful on that. i think DELL has been poor but long term they might do well. AIG was undervalued.. and i wish i bought.. PVH also a good one at the time.. Germany, are u looking for short term investment or Long term ?

germany with $1000 for short term investment, u can make big bucks if you trade on margins.. so if the stock goes up u will gain big but if stock goes down u will lose big too.. risky unless you know what u are doing. otherwise to be safe i would just invest $1000 for long term.. short term with $1000 u probably cant make big bucks... also what is your definition of short term ? 1 week, 1 month, 6 months, 1 year ??

hahahaha, latoboy giving investment advice? hahaha Fellas beware, this lato is a snake oil trader! Heed his advice and see your savings deplete at the speed of light. Germany and Laligurans, if wanting to open an online trading account, just go with Scottrade (or other reputable firms out there...brick and mortar offices rather than some no-name virtual one room office firms). Do some research into the firm before putting your money into any fly-by-night brokerage. If possible, try and visit the brokerage itself if you're not a big time player yet.

I haven't read the whole thread so I apologize if this has ben said earlier.
If you have $1000 to invest look to put that in some etf like SPY. Do not use margin. Actually many brokers will not let use use margin with $1000 and you can't do short term trading because of the PDT rules. You have to have more than $25,000 in your account to make more than 4 day-trades a week. One of my favourite stock is ACH, this could go lower but it is trading at such a low PE and has a good history of growth, I'll seriously look into it. Please do your own research too.
Scottrade or Ameritrade will be fine as brokers. If you are a serious trader look into Interactive Brokers.

Dear Investment Gurus (you know who you are):
Which brokerage do you use - or recommend - to invest in stocks? And why?
Here are my needs:
I am looking to jump into the market soon. I don't have much money to invest, just couple of thousands. I am a beginner, so good research tool would be very helpful. But I can't pay exorbitant fees, infact, I am looking only at the range of $7 to $13 per trade. Basically, I am seeking the biggest bang for the buck.
Can you recommend which brokerage account to open?

Riten, I would suggest Scottrade.com They have good customer service and they have 7 dollors per transaction !!! I can refere you and if you open account within oct end you would get 7 transaction free ... thats like 49 dollars.. thanks and goodlucki

i invested one year of my saving in telsa back in 2013 when no one knew what tesla was . it was a huge gamble to invest a year of hard on money in such a start up company but it did n rest is history. but unfortunately i had to sell nearly half of my tesla stock prior to covid but still no regrets i invested to somewhere else . i had a similar experience when i was in nepal . i invested a lot in NABIL for which my family critisided . they wanted to build house if not purchase land but that gave me a lot lot lot profit . no risk no gain how to make a right decision ? well it it was out of my mind i would have never spend a year worth of saving in tesla, ( a futureless company that time) . but i consulted a good expert analyst paid him for his research n within a year of investment i tripled my investment . now tesla is future n has more brand value than toyota . its innovations are 10 years ahead than any other companies . i regret selling tesla but was left with no choice with future market uncertainties . u cant have laddu in both hands all time . when applying in stock seek a advice from atleast 2 exerts

I have seen many people dwelling in past and trying to feel good as well bad. We thought of buying some FB stock when it went public, later it went down still did not buy.If I had invested 1000 what would be the worth today? Past is past it is not worth digging. But it helps you, right? You feel pity as well show it. That is dragging you down and pulling up 15-16 years old threads in Sajha. Doing this makes you happy as well satisfying than a sex? Am I right?
